From October 24–27, Year 9, 10 and 12 students went on a four-hour road trip to a school in Qufu to educate the children on the importance of protecting our planet. This trip was led by the Year 12 IB students as their diploma Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) project.
The first day was spent teaching the local school’s Primary Year 5 students how water, air, and land pollution harms our planet, and how recycling can reduce these impacts. Our students successfully inspired the children to use recycled materials to create game items which would be introduced to the other primary classes the next day.
The next day was full of activities and games planned for the other children by our students and Primary Year 5. Candy and prizes, made available by the Student Council’s donation, were given out as rewards.
Our students described the trip as “eye-opening and rewarding”. It isn't every day that our students get to see the struggles that other kids experience. This helped inspire our students to continue to give back to those less fortunate.
On the last day of the trip, we had the opportunity to explore the Confucius Temple, and in the evening we celebrated our success with a lavish dinner. Everyone involved enjoyed this experience, and we can't wait for the opportunity to get involved in Seeds of Hope again next year.
