The Yew Chung Education Foundation is delighted to announce that, from the 2018-19 academic year, the Yew Chung Community College (YCCC) will offer Bachelor Degree programmes in Early Childhood Education. The college will be renamed Yew Chung College of Early Childhood Education (YCCECE) to reflect its new educational offering.
YCCECE is the very first and only specialist Early Childhood tertiary institution in Hong Kong, in Mainland China, and indeed the whole of Asia.
The first of its kind
YCCECE will continue to build on the strengths of YCCC, which became the first of its kind in Hong Kong not only as a dedicated early education institute, but to receive government approval to run a full-time kindergarten teacher training programme.
From the beginning of next year, YCCECE will offer a Bachelor of Education (Hons) in Early Childhood Education (BEdECE), complementing its existing programmes – the Higher Diploma in Early Childhood Education (HDECE) and the Diploma in Early Childhood Studies (DECS). Upon successful completion of the BEdECE or HDECE programme, graduates are qualified to obtain the four ECE professional qualifications.
A modern and innovative campus
YCCECE's new campus, located in Aberdeen, Hong Kong, is designed to facilitate collaboration and interaction between students and teachers. The pièce de résistance of the campus is its “Discovery Space” in which children aged 0-8 years old can learn and play alongside caregivers and students of the college. This will allow college students to consolidate their skills in a real-life environment.
From baby to bachelor
YCCECE will realise Yew Chung Education Foundation’s vision to provide education from “B to B” (Baby to Bachelor). Commenting on the establishment of YCCECE, Dr Betty Chan, Director of the Foundation, said, “We hope to democratise quality early childhood education, to make a big, lasting impact on society, and position the college as the ECE centre of excellence in Asia.”
