On January 6, students in Years 4–13 traveled to a local school in nearby Jimo in order to participate in our annual Giving Tree Trip. Over the past month, YCIS students worked hard to prepare fun activities to do with the Primary students at the local school in Jimo.
Upon arriving at the local school, we were greeted with smiling faces from all the students and teachers. YCIS Qingdao students and staff quickly split into ten groups, set up activity stations both inside and outside classrooms, and then instructed the Jimo students to rotate around the stations. At each station, YCIS students had the opportunity to work with the Jimo students, playing games, sports, and making crafts.
Before ending our time at the Primary school, YCIS students gave the Giving Tree care bags over to the Jimo students. The care bags included school supplies, stationery, books, and sporting goods. We then joined together for photographs and said goodbye.
This service learning trip is always a great growth opportunity for our students, as they have the chance to learn about the community around them, as well as serving and giving to others.
