Year One has had a busy first semester filled with learning in Yew Chung International School of Qingdao. We love to try new things and know that learning is best when it is challenging. In Year One we embrace our mistakes and use them to grow – if we don’t get something “right” we want to think about how we found our answer, to see if we need to try a different approach. We say “not yet” rather than think that we can’t do something. In English, we are learning to read and write simple stories and in Mathematics we have learnt to count on from the largest number, as well as understand numbers to 100. We had a wonderful field trip to Biru World where we had the chance to find out more about different jobs like firefighters, doctors, and police. This was to help us learn more about our Topic, “People Who Help Us.” In Chinese, we learnt many characters and now we can use these characters to make simple words. Our Chinese study course is full of fun! We made moon-cakes, we learnt Chinese fairy tales, and played Chinese traditional games. It is a great experience to be in Year One!
