YCIS Qingdao celebrated International Day on November 11.
International Day is a hugely popular annual event for the entire school community. It is a day where we showcase our values and focus on global citizenship. As is usual each year, every group chooses one country to represent. Classrooms are decorated to reflect different cultures, customs, food, and clothes.
This year we featured 12 countries, including New Zealand, Thailand, Denmark, Australia etc. Students wore the appropriate national dress for each and held a fascinating ‘parade of nations’ in the school gym. It was a true world gathering connecting western and eastern cultures.
Cultural station tours in every classroom provided an opportunity for students, staff and families to learn more about different cultures and pick up knowledge from around the world.
The “Together We Can Change the World” outdoor event organised by Year 11-13 students, and performances from our Primary and Secondary groups, made up an enjoyable afternoon. Although we could not invite parents to join us on the campus this time, many participated by sharing short cultural videos of their own.
It is an unusual year as the virus has changed the world. It has also changed the way we see the rest of the world. At YCIS Qingdao, we are determined to equip our “world citizens of tomorrow” with a unique global vision. International Day was a lively and informative step in that direction.
