On Wednesday, December 14, our YCIS music students took the stage for the annual Christmas concert. The music was selected to represent all sorts of Christmas traditions. The students showcased their music learning in many different groups from choirs to orchestra to small ensembles as well. All students showed massive music growth throughout the process of making the concert come to life.
The show started with the famous Ukrainian song called, “Carol of the Bells”. It is meant to capture the bells tolling as Christmas begins in the Ukraine. The focus then moved to the orchestra where they entertained the audience with classic and even a bit of jazz. The combination of Year 3 students all the way through Year 12 students is a massive undertaking and it was a great opportunity for younger students to learn from older students.
As the concert continued, the audience heard primary class songs, combined primary numbers, and beginning violins. The spirit of learning and creation was alive as our students performed and demonstrated how far they had come.
As the concert wrapped up, smaller ensembles took the stage. From popular tunes to a capella music, our students performed their music and showcased their musicianship. With one final number, everyone was invited to join in the singing of “Joy to the World”. As we end our first semester of the 2016/2017 school year, the music students would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and the happiest of new years!
