On December 8, YCIS Qingdao’s English students Daniel Gakes, Mun June Chong, and Constance Vielma Clegg visited the Norwegian restaurant Pizza Bakeren in Huangdao. But they weren’t there just to gorge themselves on pizzas and cheese balls. As part of our Gifted and Talented programme, these students – representing our most accomplished writers in lower secondary school – became restaurant critics, who were assigned the task of reviewing the restaurant by Redstar magazine. They had to work to a tight deadline, submitting their reviews to the magazine the same day, interview the manager and chef, thus experiencing first hand the demands of being a professional journalist. The most accomplished review, as determined by the editors at Redstar, will be published in the January issue.
